The 45th season of the PBA has begun last Sunday with SMB vs Magnolia.

Both teams are missing key big men to injuries. Fajardo for SMB and Reavis and Pingris for Magnolia.

Key observations:

- Magnolia badly missed their big men and it showed in their defense. SMB shot 57% from 2 with most of them coming from pick and rolls and drop off passes to Tautuaa and Santos.

- Both teams shot the same % from 3 (38%) but SMB made 6 more 3 point shots than Magnolia (12-6). This is a trend that I will look into closely during the season to see if the PBA will go into more 3 point shots more like the NBA.

- The best players for SMB are Ross (+23), Santos (+23) and Lassiter (+22). While the only player for Magnolia with a positive plus/minus is Jalalon with +14 in 24 minutes.

- Arwind played 43 minutes and Tautuaa played 41 minutes. Not sure if this is sustainable but this is the first game of the season.

- The best lineup for SMB is the starting five (Ross, Romeo, Lassiter, Santos, Tautuaa) which played together for a total of 15 minutes. They were +16 during their time. The second best lineup is the starting five with Cabagnot replacing Romeo which is +10 in 9 minutes of playing time.

SMB looks like a formidable team to start the season and Magnolia struggled to get a rhythm with their guard rotation.
